This Is Why Artists Belong On LinkedIn

Artists might be the business world’s hidden secret.

I used to be really corporate.

After university, I completed my accountancy exams and went to work at a mammoth tech company in finance and analytics.

I climbed the ladder until I realised I wasn’t that good at the next rung and wanted to be somewhere else entirely.

Then I had a baby, and another one, and then I figured out I wanted to be an artist.

So I have seen both sides. Corporate and creative. Now I really see how artists are the original entrepreneurial and business thinkers.

Artists are problem solvers (it might solely be their problems) but they work tirelessly at them. Manically for some.

Artists are incredible at trial and error. The best are uncomfortable all the time to push their art and style forward.

Every new sheet is a potential solution. One more sketch, stroke, layer, cut. Constantly on the vanguard of themselves and their creations until it clicks with a customer. But then the real artists break and move onto another view and output, looking for another customer. They cannot rest on their laurels. They never assume the customer will return for more, someone else will take them.

I’m not sure I’m one of those ☝️artists yet, but I’m working on it

Five years is a long time. I wonder how I will have evolved as an artist by then? I wonder if I’ll be creating or an artist in disguise in a corporate again?

My kiddies will be 8 and nearly 6.
